So you have a new website – What about the marketing?

So you have decided you need a new website. Maybe it’s a replacement for an existing site, or perhaps a completely new domain to support a new business venture. You have decided on your budget,  obtained a number of quotes from different web developers….

But what about the marketing & promotion???

Developing a new website is a time consuming activity, and often requires considerable investment to achieve the desired effect. Marketing is often overlooked or dismissed as an unnecessary expense. However, nothing could be further from the truth.

Launching a new website can often be compared to opening a new shop, even if your site is not an eCommerce development. You would never open a shop on a quiet street with no footfall or passing trade, so why would you spend thousands of pounds on a new website, without giving serious consideration to how people will find it?

Search Engine Optimisation, often known as ‘SEO’ is an absolutely essential consideration when launching a new website or domain. While not ‘cheap’, proper SEO is the difference between success and failure of a website. Many people assume that if you have a fantastic website design and functionality, that people will use it.

It’s not that simple.

There are different kinds of SEO. Onsite, and offsite.

Onsite SEO relates to the way your website is constructed. Your website needs comply to W3C standards compliant level, which means the code is clean and it meets all of the requirements in terms of correct construction. It also relates to features such as ensuring images carry the correct ‘alt tags’, correct ‘H’ heading tags and that content is keyword rich with relevant anchor text.

Offsite SEO relates to activities such as inbound link building, directory submissions, article marketing, PR and social bookmarking.

If the above means nothing to you, you will benefit from an informal chat about whether your website currently meets these targets. There is no ‘quick fix’ to SEO.

If you are serious about marketing your website to your target market, then talk to our strategic SEO partners 4Ps Marketing. Customers of USP receive a free SEM audit worth £2000.
