Joomla 2.5 - The Next Chapter
Users of the popular web content management system, Joomla are eagerly awaiting the next incarnation of the application which has been scheduled for release this month.
Joomla 2.5 is a long term release which will be supported for at least the next 18 months following a series of versions released more rapidly throughout 2011.
2.5 replaces 1.7, support for which discontinues a month following the publication of this new version, expected on 24th January.
Support for Joomla 1.5 is also expected to cease in April this year.

New Features
Joomla 2.5 promises a raft of new features including;- Built in version update notification quick-icon button
- Multi database format support
- Database version check
- Captcha functionality added to core
- Improved site search function
- Improved workflow for menu module creation
- Define custom offline image
Plus several other additions!
If you are currently a Joomla 1.7 user, upgrading to 2.5 should be a one click upgrade, with compatibility for most 1.7 friendly components, however 1.5 users will need to follow details contained in our last blog post regarding upgrading from Joomla 1.5.
